Most paintball guns are powered by a tank filled with some type of compressed air or gas. The most commonly used are CO2, Nitrogen and high pressure air. When just starting paintball, most beginners use CO2 tanks to power their guns – mostly because the tanks are so cheap to buy. As they get more experienced, however many players upgrade to high pressure air (HPA) tanks.
High pressure compressed air tanks may cost a bit more, but they are much lighter, easier to get refilled and hold much more air, allowing many more shots/tank than CO2. They also make your paintball marker more efficient and reliable; unlike CO2, HPA stays the same temperature when firing so shooting is more consistent. CO2 tanks tend to freeze up after regular shooting, often causing paintballs to lob or fall short from the gas being released in different temperatures. Basically, there are two types of HPA tanks; aluminum and carbon fiber. Aluminum tanks are 3000 psi, have square bottoms and cost much less. Carbon fiber tanks are 4500 psi, have round bottoms and cost quite a bit more, however they are much lighter and hold much more air. If you’re upgrading to high pressure air, the benefits of a carbon fiber tank (compared to an aluminum tank) justify spending the extra money. Fortunately, you can be assured of the lowest prices possible when buying your tanks from ChoicePaintballGuns.com.
